I hope to see you at our family gathering
The Mid-Coast EMS Council, Inc. will be hosting its 28th
Annual Seminar at The Samoset this November. All of us associated with the
Seminar look forward to serving your educational needs and strive to provide
you with an educational yet fun filled weekend that promises to be a great
experience.
When I take time to look back at how we got to this 28th
year, I can’t help but think of the history that has taken place at The
Samoset Resort. For it’s all the people that have walked the halls, taken or
taught classes, shown off the latest and greatest EMS gear or been there to
help run the show that have made this Seminar the biggest and best in New
England for the past 27 Novembers.
It has been a true honor to be a part of this Seminar for
the past 23 years as a student, 14 years as faculty and Council Member, and
the past 8 years as the Seminar Coordinator. The experiences that I have
shared with many of you have been great, the networking and opportunity to
meet so many people that have shaped the EMS system at a local, state,
national, and international level has been invaluable. I know that many of
you have also taken the opportunities that this Seminar has offered over the
years and made the best of it. I hope that you will continue to make the
best of the experiences that present themselves and share them with others,
for that is what will move us all forward in this pre-hospital world.
As the pre-hospital world continues to develop with the
inclusion of Emergency Medical Dispatch, we have seen a great change in
accessing the system, and this brings another group of public safety
professionals to our midst at the Samoset in November. We welcome these
first – first responders to join our fire-rescue, ER staff, and EMS folks to
broaden our family. The Mid-Coast EMS Seminar has been an event that
emphasizes education, networking, brotherhood, and as our DJ, “Jammin” Jamie
Bohannon always plays the song, “We Are Family”.
This year’s Seminar will give you some of the old favorites
and some new ideas in education; there will be something for everyone. New
this year is the inaugural competition known as the “Mid-Coast EMS Games at
the Samoset”, modeled after the JEMS Games in Baltimore. We strive to
provide you with education, networking, entertainment and relaxation, not to
mention some of the most scenic views of the coast of Maine, from the great
Samoset Resort.
If you are new to EMS or have been around for a while and
never joined us, I ask you to give us a try. If it has been a while since
you were at the family gathering, come on back, we missed you. And for those
of you who have been coming for years, I will see you there.
