MID-COAST EMS GAMES AT THE SAMOSET 2008 Something new and exciting for the 28th Annual Seminar! This year we are hosting an event for Maine licensed providers to show us what they are made of! On Tuesday night, teams will begin a competition modeled after the national level event, the JEMS Games, designed to test the skills and knowledge of EMS providers. The JEMS Games are hosted in Baltimore, Maryland at the JEMS Conference and teams from all over the United States compete for a Grand Prize Package. Listed below you will find the basic information about our competition and how you can enter a team to compete for prizes for the top three teams from the preliminary rounds and our Grand Prize to the winning team of the Final Competition. The objective of the Mid Coast EMS GAMES at the SAMOSET is to create a fun, challengingand educational experience for Maine’s emergency medical personnel that results in them being better prepared for the challenges that they may encounter in the field, learn from competitors, and prepare them to represent Maine EMS at the JEMS competition in Baltimore Maryland in March 2009. The MCEMS Games, like the JEMS Games, are not designed to test a team’s ability to recite protocols, or simply achieve points for performing the correct skills. MCEMS feels that teams registering to compete should feel confident in their assessment and patient care skills, feel competent as a team with three other care providers, and can complete assigned tasks in a rapid, but efficient pace. The MCEMS Games will be used to observe and evaluate each team's performance and clinical excellence. The Preliminary Rounds will challenge each of the ten (10) teams’ abilities to complete a series of stations designed to test the limits of an EMS provider’s knowledge. After all teams compete in the preliminary round, the judges will compile scoring sheets and present the three teams that will compete in the final competition on Friday, November 14th. The Final Competition is a 20 minute scenario-based event that tests each finalist team’s ability to manage multiple patients with varying illnesses or injuries in front of an audience of their peers. The final competition focuses directly on each team’s ability to conduct a thorough scene assessment and zero in on each patient’s illness, or injury, and manage each condition in a complete, compassionate, and efficient manner. The finals will serve as an exceptional continuing education learning opportunity for the audience and the participating teams, and prepares the finalist to enter as a Team for the Baltimore JEMS Games. The winning Team and prizes for all three teams will be awarded at the Sat. night banquet. CEH’s will be awarded to all participating team members, as well as observing students. To Register your team: Fee - $100.00 for a Team of (3) three, plus an alternate.
